About Yanda
Over the last 10 years Yanda Aboriginal Art has established itself as one of the prominent galleries in Alice Springs. By specializing in art from the Pintupi western desert Yanda provides access to the leading indigenous artists panting today.
The Pintupi were the last of the tribal groups to make contact with the established settlements in the 1960’s. In 1984 events were to take place that turned the world’s attention to an ancient surviving culture. The “group of nine” as they were to become known, walked out of the desert in October of that year.
The tribal men that included Warlimpirrnga, Walala, and Tamayinya Tjapaltjarri were to become leading artists in a relative short time. The tribal content of the Pintupi designs provides an important connection with their cultural heritage and preserves a link with an ancient past.
Yanda commissions artwork directly from the artists and all work is produced on an individual basis. Progressive images and full documentation is provided with each painting. The relationship that has developed with these unique artists has created a working environment that sees paintings of outstanding quality and of truy significant cultural importance.
